The National Council for Voluntary Organisations describes volunteering as when someone spends unpaid time doing something to benefit others and interestingly, specifically highlights doing something to benefit the environment. The National Nature Service will complement existing volunteer groups and will be a way of ensuring that volunteers can be supported within a structure of project management and coordinators. Building on and enhancing existing volunteering networks, it will offer additional benefits by making volunteering opportunities more accessible.
